A technical fix starts with a specific page or template and a clear expected result. A crawl report alone cannot tell you which issue is worth fixing first. This route moves from discovery to release checks.
1. Check discovery and indexing
Read the small-business crawling and indexing checklist, then the structured data guide. Compare important URLs against the sitemap, internal links, canonical tags and Search Console's URL Inspection result. A sitemap is a discovery hint, not an indexing guarantee.
2. Map a redesign before it launches
Use the website redesign SEO migration checklist. Inventory existing URLs, decide which pages are retained, replaced or removed, and map redirects to the closest useful destination. Test the staging site for accidental noindex directives, broken links and canonical targets. Avoid redirecting every removed page to the home page.
3. Check the release and its aftermath
Use website monitoring after updates to verify important pages, redirects, forms and analytics after launch. Review Search Console coverage and landing-page performance over the following weeks; investigate changes against the prelaunch baseline rather than assuming every movement is caused by the migration.
Record one issue clearly
Use these fields: affected URL, observed problem, expected behaviour, customer or business impact, evidence, owner and release check. This turns an audit label into a task someone can complete.
For example: "An old service URL returns 404, but an equivalent replacement exists. Map the old URL to that replacement, update internal links and verify the redirect reaches the correct page with a 200 response." If no equivalent exists, do not invent a redirect destination just to remove the error.
For a migration, keep the complete old-to-new URL map and a prelaunch baseline. Check the highest-value customer journeys first, then work through the remaining inventory.
